There has been a significant amount of pre-season bitterness from team social media comments, who view the San Francisco Giants as the milquetoast team who never managed to sign multiple high profile free agents. While we are all quite aware that Greg Johnson wants to “break even”, I am quite fine with Posey’s focus on scouting and farm system building. If you want to build a team with a baseball ownership group that has real estate aspirations, you have to travel along the route that doesn’t require pilfering from another Hershel Walker candidacy.

Math and statistics are not in my wheelhouse. However it does seem that compared to most of our non-braindead division rivals, the San Francisco Giants could spend more money on talent. This chart reflects on a past season where the San Francisco Giants were still sharing the Bay Area with the now-Sacramento A’s.
That is no longer the case.
So for this 2025 MLB season, in this new era of Buster Posey, let the games begin!
